Fleas like bed bugs are blood-sucking insect pest, meaning fleas are ectoparasites of humans and domestic animals. What Fleas Look Like

Their body has specialized spins on mouth, legs and back to help them prevent it from being groomed off while their back pair of legs are stout and used for jumping. Fleas immature stage larvae are worm-like, though having chewing mouth parts but do not suck blood instead feed on organic debris.  

How Fleas Infestation Starts And What Damages Are? 

Fleas transport themselves on rodents and other mammals, and usually remain on their hosts at all times. Fleas can live on any warm-blooded animal, but seem to prefer to live on humans, cats, dogs, opossums, rats and other rodents. They can also be found on shoes, pant legs, or blankets. The most common species is the cat flea, which often feasts on cats, dogs and humans.

 As fleas feed on the blood and to achieve this they bite several times because of interrupted feedings. The most prominent problems of fleas are a continued irritation, female fleas can lay several hundred eggs. These eggs are laid loosely on the host and drop onto floors, bedding and the ground outside. Eggs hatch into larvae in about 10 days. The larvae feed on all types of organic debris, including the feces of adult fleas. The life cycle is complete metamorphosis. Fleas can be a serious health hazard to humans. They transmit diseases such as bubonic plague. 

Many people have an allergic reaction to a flea bite and secondary infections can be caused by scratching. Cat and dog fleas are intermediate hosts of the dog tapeworm. Children can become infested with this tapeworm when they accidentally swallow infested fleas.
